The Bast Alpha Garrison is the Louisiana chapter of the 501st Legion, the worldwide volunteer Star Wars costuming organization that specializes in movie-accurate costumes from the Star Wars universe. Members across the state — about 66 as of 2026 — bring the love of Star Wars to Louisiana through charitable and community-based events.
The 501st is a leading force in fan-based charitable events, dedicated to brightening the lives of others and building relationships with our communities and local charities.
Bast Alpha Garrison was founded August 24, 2006. In our 20th anniversary year, Commanding Officer 36999 became both the first female CO and the first Northern Louisiana CO the garrison has had.
Personnel growth is only part of the story. Troopers have been nominated for Legion Trooper of the Month. Droid Hunt returned to Louisiana and earned Legion Crew of the Quarter for Q3 2025. Trooper 51419’s art was adopted worldwide by the 501st for Droid Hunts. The garrison completed the census at 100% — a garrison first.

While a growing number of people are experiencing a reawakening of their Star Wars fandom, new generations are seeking ways to celebrate their passion for George Lucas’s modern mythology. The 501st Legion brings these fans together, reinforcing the enduring longevity of the Star Wars saga.
Some fans are content to collect action figures… other fans want to be action figures. Nothing professes your passion quite like building your own detailed costume replica of a classic Star Wars villain, and sharing that magic in the real world.
Giving back is the cornerstone of everything we do. Being present in our communities is part of who we are. Most Bast Alpha appearances support local non-profits and community groups, raising both awareness and funds.
